After independently studying photography for five years, I mistakenly thought that paying $30,000 to continue under the teachings of professionals would’ve been a good idea. Instead of finding my own niche, my work became too controlled. I found myself focusing on art for reasons that had nothing to do with why I grew to be an artist in the first place. The moment I realized that I wasn’t a fashion photographer and started to develop my own style, was the same moment that I was recognized as an artist. I dropped out of The University of the Arts, changed my major, and moved on.
I don't create art, I only capture it. I photograph everything that I simply want to remember, but for the image to accurately hold on to a specific memory, I have to capture the subject in a very particular way that will also put my audience into that moment. My mission is to utilize candid photography as a tool to expose what can be easily seen, but is often overlooked. It seems that people allow the little things in life slip by; the things that make us happy without us noticing. There has always got to be reason in which you’re flaunting a smile on your face, whether you’re aware of the reason or not. I want to exploit those reasons with my camera lens to prove that sometimes what you have is all that you’ll ever need. My photographs are meant to bring comfort to people by exposing the beauty that already exists around them without the backdrops, Photoshop, and designer clothing.
With my love for candid photography, I've been given countless opportunities. I've done work for clothing boutiques, indie production companies, and record labels. Moving on, I've shot weddings, live shows, festivals, personal portraits, etc.
I'm not sure where else my photography will take me, but I'm also not too concerned. I could have galleries around the world or just an apartment wallpapered by my art work and I’d be equally as happy. My priority is not receiving recognition in my work; it is to aid others in recognizing what they have.
