Human behavior fascinates me and directly impacts my artwork. I want to visit my own dreams and struggles in addition to the afflictions of others and explore the emotions we all share yet find so hard to explain. My creative process is organic and stems from questioning life’s experiences in a search for understanding. My work focuses thematically on an obsession with childhood, innocence, and freedom. I push to create imagery that is ambiguous in subtext and yet has the ability to intrigue and occasionally disturb.
The use of expressive lines and vertical orientations create dramatic, lyrical compositions. The female figure, prevalent in my work, serves to represent my place in this world as a young woman; but also symbolizes my admiration for the physical beauty of the female form, the exhilaration of sexual desire, and my fascination with the inner essence of a woman.
A defining characteristic in my paintings is the layering and uniting of multiple art mediums. The creative process of letting each media have its own voice and direction is truly the most beautiful and freeing aspect of making art. Watercolor, acrylic, ink, oil, colored pencil, and collage are my companions in the studio.
