Magic Industrie is the name for the fun and functional designs of Ryan Hansen. Based in Los Angeles, California, I create handmade magic wallets from discarded vintage books. I have been a collector and recycling enthusiast ever since I can remember. One summer day, behind my favorite local thrift store, I stumbled upon a beautiful set of encyclopedias from the 1950's on their way to the dump. Naturally, I rescued them and that's when the "magic" began. Sitting in my apartment one day looking over these books I suddenly felt an urge to wear them in some fashion. With their timeless designs, perfectly worn in hues, and their dusty mystery I just couldn't resist. The magic wallet was the perfect fit. It's interactive, practical and breathes a new fresh life to these otherwise forgotten relics. Magic Industrie's vintage magic wallets are all unique and one of a kind. They make great gifts since you can match the books they were made from to any personality. They spark great conversations and you can spend hours trying to figure out how they mysteriously trap your money and cards. A year and a half later if there are books in LA being tossed aside you will probably find me there.
