Flights of Fancy

Accessories – Houston

One of the things that I love in the world is having the freedom to create anything your mind can come up with using what you know! During my time working on my MFA in Costume Technology, I\'ve been able to expand my skill base to the point where if there\'s something I feel inspired to make, I have the ability to do so, and the freedom to pursue it. I find a lot of inspiration in fabric I come across, thinking of different ways it can be used to create fun, funny, and functional accessories for others to enjoy. Growing up, the film version of The Wizard of Oz, the novel The Giver, and Rainbow Brite played a huge role in developing my aesthetic, which, like RAW, is focused on being creative, colorful, and fun. Being able to create things that speak to me that can be used by others to express themselves or make them laugh is rewarding and gives me a sense of purpose, and bonding with other like minded artists only bolsters this feeling further. Although my goals in life have been as varied as wanting to be a doctor/cheerleader when I was 5 to wanting to be an actress in high school, right now my goal is to make a living pursuing my art in LA. If you\'d like to see more of what I can do, please check out my portfolio at actcostumes.tumblr.com or my Etsy store at etsy.com/shop/FlightsofFancyShop!
