Visual Art – Atlanta

I was born and raised around Atlanta, Georgia. I am currently a student at Kennesaw State University where I am majoring in Visual Arts with a concentration in drawing and painting. For the past few years I have been working diligently on my body of works in hopes to make my way into the professional world of visual art. For my most recent series I have created a number of subtractive oil paintings where I remove layers of oil paint from a variety of surfaces using q-tips, cotton balls, and palette knives. Through this process, I create hundreds (sometimes thousands) of random lines that weave, curl, twist, braid, and connect through each other resulting in either a recognizable image i.e..animals, iconic figures, etc. or a complete abstraction which some viewers have claimed resemble roots or neurons. I consider this series to be an exploration into \"surrealist automatism\" which is a method developed by surrealist artists to express the subconscious. Once I begin the mark making process I begin to focus my mental energy away from the painting itself through various meditation techniques and breathing exercises all while my hand continues to create expressive lines. The result is an image that appears chaotic and spontaneous while simultaneously conveying a sense of beautiful intricacy which I believe is an accurate representation of the human psyche.
