Visual Art – Perth

'The journey of watching a drawing come to life and the challenge of capturing every bit of detail is what strives me to evolve'.... I was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1991. I started drawing at a very young age, mostly drawing portraits of my favourite celebrities. Art was a way of self expression as during school I struggled with dyslexia. Picking up a pencil and drawing didn't require writing a sentence with grammar or reading, drawing was less of a challenge and more of an enjoyment. All through school my mum kept me busy asking me to draw her favourite celebrities from the early 1900's, the house eventually turned into a private gallery, with every drawing being placed on the wall. Then there was no longer anymore room left. I never thought about art as a career. I went to university and became a Registered Nurse with the desire of helping people. I put down my pencil for a year or two to focus on my studies. A year after I graduated my desire to draw and create art work became stronger. I picked up my pencil and also turned my eye towards acrylic painting. Art has always been that special place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and the sometimes hectic world of nursing. It’s a love, a passion and a journey. I focus mainly on graphite and coloured pencil, but also delve into pen and watercolours. I love the soft and bold detail that pencil can create. I love the challenge of pushing myself to capture every bit of detail in the subjects I choose to draw, such as still life and my military themed art work, which embraces our brave soldiers. The army in particular has always been a part of my life having my brother and various other family members serve overseas. To me creating these military art works is a privilege. Watching a drawing come to life is such an enjoyment, but watching others view my work is the greatest enjoyment. My desire is to continue developing as an artist, so that art lovers can continue to enjoy my art work as much as I enjoy creating it.
