Photography – San Jose

For as long as I can remember, I have carried a camera with me wherever I went. A few years ago I changed from my longtime career as a floral designer to a job that keeps me in an office all day. I soon discovered that photography was the only medium that could satisfy the creative outlet that I was missing. My first digital camera allowed me the freedom to experiment and shoot as much as I wanted without the expense of developing film. I discovered a new appreciation for the world around me. With my camera as my eyes I found beauty in a shadow, the corner of a building, a storm drain or an empty chair. My restless eyes and hands suddenly had a new outlet and I embraced the challenge of capturing not just what I was seeing, but also the feelings that the images evoked. I joined a 365 group on a photography website and started shooting and posting a picture a day online, giving and receiving creative feedback with photographers from all over the world. I upgraded from a point and shoot to a DSLR and went to work learning all I could about the mechanics of photography. The correlation of light and shutter speed is the heartbeat of the craft and something I experiment with every time I shoot. The best tools a photographer can possess are a good camera, a strong eye, and a point of view.
