Ara Lyman

Visual Art – Spokane

Born in Bend, Oregon Ara spent most of her young life in the north eastern forests of Washington state in a log cabin. She believes this gave her a unique perspective on life. She has an AFA from Spokane Falls Community college. Currently her work is with encaustic painting and mixed media. Combining her unique veiwpoint with the beautiful, textural and glossy beeswax is very satisfying. She is of the opinion that there is nothing new except ones own experience. She shapes her work with hot metal, scraping tools and anything that may produce an interesting image. Each layer is fused with flame, some works have many, many layers. The wax is like skin, whatever happens to it, it shows on the surface. Although unforgiving, This process enables one to let go and to allow. Which leads to Ara\'s other love, yoga. She currently teaches and practices Bikram style yoga. At this time she resides in Spokane with her family.
