Acorn

Visual Art – Pittsburgh

My name is Ashley Cornwall and I am an abstract painter and illustrator from Pittsburgh, PA. My friends call me Acorn because well, I\'m a little nuts! Ever since I was a kid I have filled notebooks with weird mindless doodles, never thinking that they would lead to anything. I always wanted to be an artist but I never thought it was even possible. I don\'t have enough time, I don\'t have enough money, I\'m not good enough. Excuses. Then I realized that way of thinking gets you absolutely nowhere. Negative thoughts lead a negative lifestyle and I decided I needed to change my life. So I went with my gut and listened to that little voice inside my head, and I started to create every single day. My objective as an artist is to use color as a method of expression in order to show emotion, form, and texture by using abstract and therapeutic painting techniques. I like to experiment with the movement of paint and the movement of actual canvas. I find it more exciting to let the paint create its own form on the canvas and from there I pay close attention to details of what colors and shapes complement each other. My main focus in painting is watercolor due to its spontaneous movement and its ability to freely blend from one pigment to the next.
