Visual Art – Richmond

Curtis has been creating art since he was in elementary school, but it wasn’t until his art teacher in high school pushed him out of his comfort zone into the world of painting. He created his first painting ever using oils as a junior in high school, and won a Silver Key for it in the Northern Virginia Scholastics competition later that year. Curtis also explored talents elsewhere, such as photography, and won a second Silver Key the following year in the same competition. Curtis went on to graduate high school in June of 2008, and started his college career that fall at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). While at community college, Curtis received 1st place in the Calliope Art Catalog competition in 2009 for his painting titled, “The Growth,” that was later purchased by the University of Virginia that same year. The following year he also received 1st place in the mixed media category in the NVCC Art competition. He incorporates his faith and other aspects of his faith into his work to reveal a deeper truth about life.
