Performing Art – Portland

Started by choreographer Kate Rafter in 2011 (but actually getting serious in 2013), AUTOMAL is a project-based dance and performance art company with a focus on risk and interactivity. AUTOMAL\'s genre-crossing performances involve dance, immersive theatre, physical theatre, site-specific installation, and/or new media. Our works discover humor and pathos, risk the body, embrace narrative, say \"NO\" to absurdity, and say \"YES\" to specificity. We\'re proponents of \"show, don\'t tell.\" Entertainment is a power tool, and we\'re not afraid to use it. AUTOMAL has presented work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Scotland’s Dance Base, American College Dance Festival NW, Dance Coalition of Oregon, Portland\'s Fertile Ground Festival, Lindsay Matheis’s (a)merging 2014, Conduit Dance Inc., Someday:Incubator, The Steep & Thorny Way to Heaven, and OSCON, the open-source convention.
