Brandon David Henrie

Visual Art – Charlotte

Listens to NPR and the top 40. Is fixated on the three-letter word: NAP. Brandon, and his partner of ten years, both share an obsession with literature and film. According to his cat, Brandon\'s sole purpose is to provide food and occasional belly rubs. Although his artwork is abstract, clear references to the natural world are visible; as nature is both cruel and beautiful, a cycle of life and death, birth and decay and embodiment of the duality of man\'s nature. Frequently, he integrates lowbrow references or puns into the work to create “refined” work that teeters on the edge of ironic gaudiness. Can an ugly object be in “good taste?” Also, can a beautiful object be tasteless?
