Accessories – Chicago
It has taken me a long time to even acknowledge the title \"artist\". I believed that was a name reserved only for the \"professionals\" or perhaps children in elementary school.
Though crafting, creative thinking, and design was never far from my mind, I had convinced myself it wasn\'t a \"real job\". After I had three children of my own, I was able to view my creativity in a whole new light--through their eyes. I would sit with them and doodle, paint, crochet, knit--anything I could get my hands on.
It was as if I had been holding my breath; and the act of creating was fresh air. I breathed in mouthfuls of this delicious new experience. As if I had been seeing everything in black and white, and now everything was vibrant hues of every color imaginable!
Which is why the craft of upcycling means so much to me. To be able to take something someone would normally toss out like so much rubbish; and I am able to give it new life, turn it into something of great beauty.
My hope is that anyone can realize their own creativity, take a chance and see what happens. Turn the world a little upside down and see what shakes out!
