Visual Art – Orange County

Born and raised in SoCal, I find contemporary collage art to be the perfect form of artistic expression. I love paper and have worked with handcrafted 2D artwork since 2006. My art draws inspiration from the Dada movement by juxtaposing images that highlight the absurdities of daily life and American culture. My works are very detailed, sometimes amusing and often capable of raising eyebrows. Playing with elements of abstraction, constructivism and surrealism, I have no preconceived idea when I begin my artistic process, preferring to initially focus on building the surface and marking reference points. I utilize raw visual images and bold narratives that ultimately merge into one labor-intensive piece. My collages are a form of alchemy— the transformation of appropriated images that frequently involve recognizable works of art, well known literature, as well as the idyllically mundane images of popular culture. I strive to bring a sense of irony regarding the assault of the visual information with which we are bombarded daily. I find it alluring that the final analysis will always be subjective, dependent upon the context and experience of the viewer.
