ABOUT

The nickname "CAPS" came from one of my best friends when we were in High School back in '95. It was a play on my last name and it just stuck. Everyone knows me as such, some still don't know my birth name and I've come to embrace the mystery that is sometimes associated with it. Over time the nickname has become synonymous with my creative abilities and I love that. From the moment I could pick up a marker as a child and used my parents wall as my first canvas, I've been into art and illustration. Studied Graphic Arts at F.I.D.M. in downtown L.A., and have been working as a Graphic Artist since 2004. Since then I have diversified my creative skills through a number of fortunate opportunities. Working as an assistant apparel & footwear designer/graphic artist for international artist Rolland Berry in conjunction with REEBOK. I have been serving as Art Director for recording artist Bishop Lamont and his label, developing album cover art, web and print promotional materials, merchandise, as well as writing and assistant directing for videos, etc. My interest in photography came about while working in the digital department of a high end photography studio, doing retouching for album covers, fashion ads for Guess? and Quicksilver and magazines such as Elle, Vogue, Stuff, and Maxim, along with retouching for many independent photo journalists. I learned about traditional film processing, digital photography, printing, and through working close with many of their clients I picked up on how to "develop an eye" with the camera. After receiving my first Canon EOS from a photography client as a Christmas gift, I began shooting non-stop...mainly as a hobby and I've kept most of my work to myself until about a year ago. After being hired on to do several personal/artistic shoots, I was infused with the confidence I needed to go public with it and see how far this hobby could go. Aside from the traditional illustration and painting work I do, I view photography not only as an additional outlet to visually communicate to people, but to also illustrate my own personal perspective on the world around me and what I consider to be beautiful in my eyes. For me, (as an artist) there is no better feeling than to watch an individual or number of people stop and look at your work become fixated...trying to analyze or interpret the story it gives birth to in their minds. With photography (or any of the creative mediums I practice) I never aim for some type of kudos or compliment...I strive to give the audience a point of view they might not have seen before. As long as my shots are able to spark some type of dialogue, evoke thought, trigger emotion, or simply enable a sense of serenity, then I am truly satisfied with what I've captured and honored to be able to share it with you. *PLEASE VIEW MY UPDATED PHOTOGRAPHY REEL VIDEO AT: http://youtu.be/er25lt1M5_4 Thank you for your time! Blessings, love and light... -"CAPS" www.theartistknownascaps.com
