Photography – Chicago

I’m just a girl with a camera. When I’m not touring as a photographer for Crooked Creek Records, there’s a good chance I’m wandering solo documenting life as seen from this angle, exploring my natural inclination toward isolation and the contrasting lives of others on seldom traveled paths. My weapon of choice is a Canon Ft-B 35 mm camera. It’s the same camera my Dad used nearly forty years ago and has become an extension of my body in a literal sense: I carry it with me as often as I carry any one of my limbs. I’m often asked why I prefer film and truth be told, I don’t have an exact answer. I love the grittiness that accompanies film. I love the mechanics, the process, the daily lesson in patience and precision. But maybe, ultimately, I choose film out of fear–fear that in such an instant world, I could forget the feeling of anticipation. My photographs are not the result of staging and there is little I find appealing in that genre of photography. I\'d much rather explore the world and offer others the joy of the seldom seen, even if it\'s within an ordinary subject.
