Cecilia Hine

Visual Art – Brisbane

Cecilia Hine was born in 1966 in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. As one of eleven children Cecilia grew up in a very hectic and creative household where there was always music, movies and creativity happening. After finishing school Cecilia moved to Brisbane and studied Ancient History and English Literature at the University of Queensland. During this time Cecilia became inspired by the powerful women of Greek, Roman and Egyptian mythology and completed several large works portraying figures such as the Medusa, Medea, Cleopatra and Penelope the wife of Odysseus from “The Odyssey.” She has also drawn inspiration from the Bible stories she heard growing up and completed several works on this theme including “Christ Resurrected” and “Head of the Baptist”. More recently Cecilia has been inspired by images from magazines and the beauty of nature and has completed several still lifes and hopes to do more landscape work. Cecilia is primarily a painter, but has also experimented in other mediums including ceramic sculpture, mosaics and ink drawings. Cecilia currently lives in Brisbane and has been involved in several solo and group exhibitions of her work.
