My name is Maddox. Growing up in the mountains of rainy seaside Washington, nature has become an integral part of my being, deeply rooted in my experience, and now, 429.1 mi away in the high desert plains of Idaho, among a rippling ocean of Sagebrush, and the wavering song of Coyote's wails, the world around me still colors the lens with which I view life... This I know to be true: There is color, a vivid, beautiful color, everywhere. Even in the desolate reaches of winter, and sweltering swaths of summer, miles underground, beauty is dreaming… waiting to be realized. I have my geology professor to thank, as well as my family. My friends, and the world around me. The curiosity, and the happenstance. The two halves of life, supporting one vision. On every riverside walk I pick up a stone, every hike to a distant volcano top, or valley floor I discover a crystal point, every journey takes me a fossil closer to hewing who I am, and what it means for me to express the art of myself and my vision. High desert, ocean, or plains, it is my life to express the beauty of the world. This life is a conduit for sharing that love of the world, with the world, and all whom walk it., and creation is my way of expressing this deep love and joy of living. Through kindness I share with all of those whom I touch, this beauty we innately know to be true. Inspired by teachers, elders, and ancestors, voices of light and wisdom intertwining across the land from first voice, to current breath, I learned from my mother, family, and relations, the truth of the sacredness of life. Guided by the Native arts of old, and the new aspirations of a people, I began to reweave this knowing, through paintings, tools, and jewelry, step by step claiming the long journey of our heart. Awoken from this world by the trust of the Norsemen, and Women, farmers, artisans, and explorers, the intent of the Black Irish, called to create bonds between the separation of peoples, and the dreaming of the tribe of my homeland, I the Kahniakehake, the Mohawk Iroquois people, the people of the flint, I seek to honor this work. Their work. My work. I strive to give new expression to the ways of old. Smithing, Forging, Carving, Staining, Sewing, Painting, Beading, Dreaming, Questing, these guides of heart, spirit, and mind can all be seamlessly incorporated into modern art that flows like the rivers, and rain, feeding creativity and growth in the present state of being. Our animal wisdom is not lost, our desire to create true relationship is not forgotten, and our yearning to seek truth, to the ends of the earth, has not been washed away. I wake up with these every day, and bring them with me to my space of slumber. I am Spirit Woman My works are created from a space of reverence and respect. It is my dream to bring the Ancient Ways new Life. Today I put together these pieces, for love of the earth, love of my journey, love of those whose lives I may touch, love of my home, and beloved partner and animals, for the love of all that has been, all that is, and all that will be. For the love of Life. Today, May we be one with the earth, and may the earth be one.
