Christian Sarrette

Photography – Ottawa

Christian Sarrette (1986, Montreal, Canada) is an artist who works exclusively using the photographic medium. With a conceptual approach, Sarrette often captures the viewer by concealing the identity of the people present in his photographs. The anonymity of the person is meant to express the universal nature of the human issues expressed in his photographs. Personal conflicts are depicted that exist in every one of us. His photos often radiate a cold and eerie atmosphere. At times, beauty still emerges. The subtle visual seductiveness, opposed to the apparent presence of a dark presage, often changes the reception of their manifold message. With his distinct aesthetics, he approaches the subject of human interaction and introspection in a multi-layered way. Sarrette likes to involve the viewer on a psychological level making him think about his own humanity. His work is deeply rooted in his personal life as he uses everyday experiences as a starting point. Often these are small moments that would go unnoticed in their day-to-day context. Christian Sarrette currently lives and works in Ottawa.
