Visual Art – San Jose

Born to American parents in Pakistan, I have spent much of my life traveling the globe. These experiences are reflected in my paintings, which tell stories about place, culture and identity. I promote gender equality in my series of body-less dress paintings called \"Flawless.\" I deal with the insecurity I feel from moving around so much by painting urban landscapes (I have a couple of series right now - \"Nomad\", \"She Was Just a Dream\" and \"Windows\"). Architecture seems more stable than I am. Painting all the details on fences, wooden buildings, etc., is very meditative. I have shown in California, Texas and Vietnam, and have work in private collections around the globe. I earned a BA in Art Practice and Peace & Conflict Studies from UC Berkeley, and currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
