Chelsey Pike

Visual Art – San Jose

I\'m Chelsey Pike from Seattle, Washington. I grew up experimenting with every kind of art I could get my hands on. My mom would find my holed up in my room surrounded by markers and glue and have to order me to go outside and play. As an adult I moved around a lot and experienced a lot of diverse things, but I never lost my love of art, and eventually landed at the College of Charleston where I studied Studio Art. While in school I began to recognize what I wanted to say and how I wanted to communicate through my work, and I discovered and became comfortable with my favorite mediums. I was drawn to watercolor because it is always a little bit unpredictable. I love how it interacts with ink, sometimes bleeding it, sometimes not. I love how subtle or loud its colors can be, and how its irregular edges amplify the clean lines around it. Two years ago I moved to Northern California. One deep breath of the peppery eucalyptus trees and I knew I\'d found home. I felt ready for the first time to begin sharing my work with the world, to challenge myself to put myself out there, take the opportunities I encountered and see where they would take me. I started my company, Water Line Design, choosing a name that encompasses the two mediums I love most: water and ink.
