Cody A. French

Visual Art – Seattle

Cody A. French is a self-taught visual Seattle artist. Born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Montana, he grew up with very little influences of art. Cody pursued interests in biology, microbiology, and computer science before devoting himself to the world of art. Mainly a draftsman, his curiosity has set him off into many directions exploring and playing with the artistic experiences and techniques of multiple mediums. Cody\'s work contains personal symbolism, mythology, and fabulism elements. These elements swirl and combine into each other providing a coded iconography emphasizing ambiguous narratives. His work branches out with emotive tones, depicting essences of innocence, fear, contemplation, comedy, and courage highlighted with intriguingly bizarre and carnivalesque designs. Cody\'s subject matter is influenced by fairytales, antique toys, contemporary fashion, contemporary art, and the symbolic world he lives in. His imagery is unique and is passionately reinforced by the natural incandescence of the wood panels he draws and paints on. Cody A. French had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy in the Autumn of 2013. He was able to study the work of famous Italian masters, as well as, meet and study under new and contemporary masters. During his adventures and studies, he was able to develop his own non-traditional watercolor technique.
