James Stephen Terrell was born and raised in Washington DC but he spent time soul searching and exercising his creativity in New York City, Newark- New Jersey, DC and Akron- Ohio. Not only is he a musician-Singer songwriter and guitarist, he also an Art teacher in DCPCS and a figurative painter who has exhibited and performed in DC- NYC- California- Philadelphia- VA and MD. James Terrell has pefromed at Ras, Sova, Busboys and Poets, Chief Ikes, Bohemian Caverns, Artomatic, The Whiskey in Annapolis, Rockwood, Iridium and Pussycat Lounge in New York City. The music and art of James Stephen Terrell crosses cultural lines. It is grassroots art that springs forth out of the Metropolitan Urban Concrete paved political and spiritual environment. The music incorporates the basic principles of folk, country, gospel and blues. The music is a breath of fresh air. The music is not based on fads, degradation, decadence and materialism.
