Visual Art – Toronto

"23 years alive, 23 years an artist." CreepazoidMonster is the title of Toronto-based traditional and digital visual artist Zeddy Chevron. Focusing primarily on illustrations that tackle mental illness, sexually explicit themes, horrific imagery, and/or exemplify the natural beauty that comes with being naturally ugly. Their original branding, #indiehipstergarbage, is the main reflection of all of their art. That is to say, they are an advocate for artists Working Within Their Means to produce art that inspires and provokes emotion. Breakdown of #indiehipstergarbage: -#: the act of doing, creating, and/or participating in something harmless for the pure enjoyment of it and because it is available. -indie: the independent individual our group that does not let lack of financial or material assistance stop them from creating the art they want to see in the world -hipster: the yearning to create art that is unique, questionable, strange, and/or new in what message it carries without fear of the mainstream being ready or willing to accept what is presented -garbage: the knowledge that all art that is labelled 'art' by the artist, whether onlookers agree or not, is inherently art. Garbage is an insult reclaimed to agree with the fact that whatever may be lacking in a piece (technical skill, quality resources, etc) may not be the point and we should probably try peeking in a little deeper. I mean, hey, look, those raccoons sure are enjoying this trash buffet, and they're some cute little fuckers, huh?
