Carlie Stracka

Visual Art – San Diego

Contrasts and contradictions of combinations of nature and construction, or motion and stillness in my vertically grown sculptures of metal, shells and other materials are resolved; imparting a raw quality to the viewer that isn’t about being correct, instead the work becomes more viscerally understood. The viewer may not know the idea behind it, but feels it. It’s not so much about the idea itself as it is the articulation of feeling that comes from its psychological overtones. The textural variations in my etchings and paintings are explorations of my aspirations to transform something more encompassing than the directly realistic and ordinary.
