Photography – Winnipeg

When I was younger I would spend a lot of time by myself– exploring the world, unsupervised and curious. I have always been driven by the need to see everything I possibly could, and I would seek beauty in sometimes the strangest of places. Having grown up partially outside of Winnipeg really had an impact on the way I see things. I learned to appreciate the beauty in an empty countryside so far removed from the city and found myself visually struck by what some may think of as just another horizon. I began using photography as a means to capture the simple beauty in venturing into an unknown neighborhood or travelling to new places, as I felt the need to present the world, as I see it, through art. My work is rooted in a visual appreciation of the world around me, the city I live in, the people in my life, and everything in between. I’m dazzled by the geometric nature of my city surroundings, fascinated by how the world we built for ourselves interacts with the earth that houses us. A lot of my work focuses on the beauty found in even the bleakest, seemingly lonely moments, and turning those moments into something beautiful. I believe my photographic eye leads me to turn what some might see as nothing particularly special, into just that.
