Visual Art – Edmonton

Born into and artistic family in Yorkton, Sask, in 1979 Dave Smith studied art at an early age and developed a sound artistic base in many mediums. He was encouraged by family and friends but had one Uncle who was a sculptor who is a great source of inspiration and knowledge. There are many artists in my family that date back many generations mostly in the Netherlands. Over the last few years he has had many group shows, done some murals, and done many commissioned works. He has also been running very successful workshops which involve many aspects of art including oil painting and figurative work. As is life, other things besides art had become more prevalent; family, having children, and working to support them. As his children grew he became a single father which pushed art further down the list of priorities. Art remained something he could not live without doing, so he continued as much as he could. As his daughters are now young ladies he had the time to apply to the arts and intends to put his all into it. He will continue to create, exhibit, and show his work in as much capacity as possible. As this is his only outlet of expression he feels the need to paint. Being an artist defines him as a person; he can do many things in many different capacities but in the end is only an artist.
