Visual Art – New York - Brooklyn

I'm a mostly self taught artist originally from New Orleans, LA AKA The Big Easy. Like most people that grew up in New Orleans, the music, art and culture of the city has a profound effect upon you. I grew up as a musician and artist although my music overshadowed my artistic endeavors. After a 20 plus year career as a Soldier, thru the insistence of my wife, I picked up my pencils and started drawing again. That bought me to where I am today in terms of technique and style. I've always been drawn to detail and it seems as though I was groomed for a very realistic and detailed way of looking at things. A musician must pay attention to strict detail whether practicing or performing. Attention to detail is a way of life for a soldier, for it could cost them their live and that of other soldiers in training or real time situations. I strive to use that innate and trained ability in my artwork as it seems most natural to me. I use realism and minute detail to draw the viewer in but with a twist. It could be simply the title or something embedded in the work itself. I want the viewer to go beyond the illusion of reality and use their own mind to ponder what is actually being portrayed. Thinking "Outside of the Box" with ordinary objects is a challenge but I love a challenge. Art for me is the essence of self through the creative means of the imagination.
