Visual Art – Omaha

Art has been a major part of my life ever since I can remember. I've jumped from art form to art form; from calligraphy, drawing, pen and ink, embroidery, to my current focuses which are bookbinding and ceramics. I fell in love with ceramics (or pottery) in high school. I had an amazing teacher that challenged me to go the step further. The three-dimensional challenge that you face when it comes to pottery an amazing stretch for your brain. You have to think of your piece from all kinds of angles. I think because I was so involved with ceramics, a 3D art form, I became enthralled with the challenge of bookbinding I got involved into binding completely by chance. The art has been far more rewarding than I could have ever thought - the history is rich and the process is challenging, involving dozens of steps from folding 200+ sheets of paper with gloves on to prevent oil smudges to running a bone-folder over every inch and crevice of freshly glued leather to create the perfect surface. Bookbinding isn't easy, but it's one of the most magical arts that I have ever been involved in. The creation of a book requires an artist to use every part of the creative process they know - and then some. But if you keep at it, you end up with a product you can genuinely feel proud of.
