Accessories – Sydney

I\'m an emerging contemporary jeweller and artist from Sydney, Australia. I like to use conceptual ideas to inform the making of sculptural jewellery using various metals and casting processes. In 2012, I had one of my neckpieces selected for the exhibition \'A fine possession: jewellery and identity\' being held at the Powerhouse Museum from September 2014. The piece selected explored a person\'s sense of identity and how that identity is made up of different masks. In 2013, I continued to explore the conscious and unconscious facets of a person\'s identity: Freudian theories about mutually stimulating instincts that drive a person; morals and ethics and how they influence the individual; sin and negative actions that affect the soul, changing and damaging it. This year, I have been looking at the way that the mind connects ideas; the way that artists instinctively know when something (thought, idea, material) that has been added to a piece either continues an idea or disrupts it. I have been working with wax and simple geometric shapes - such as those used when unconsciously doodling whilst on the phone to someone: lines and circles - and creating pieces using intuition. When something inside myself says to stop, I do; when it doesn\'t feel finished, I continue on. I have participated in various group exhibitions in Sydney and love making both exhibition and production work (and updating everyone on instagram about what is going on!). @emmafieldAU
