Visual Art – Newcastle

Australian Abstract and Realism Artist Hi there! My name is Erin Audrey, and I am an Artist based in Newcastle, Australia. I work in a variety of styles including traditional realism drawing, and also abstract painting that uses a variety of fluid mediums including acrylic paint, alcohol ink and mixing mediums. I have been drawing and painting since as long as I can remember, and have always had a strong interest in art and a natural creative approach. I began drawing with a major focus on realism and portraiture, before onto a more illustrative style of drawing throughout my childhood and teenage years. As an adult I have now refined my work and techniques, drawing on many experiences and influences around me, to create unique abstract pieces, and stunning realistic still life pieces. For me, art is a personal journey and a freedom of expression. I like to incorporate my passion for music into my art, and use the music that I listen to while I am making my abstract pieces to guide me, and influence the composition and feel of the work itself. My current focus is on exploring different elements of the ocean and sky after dark, through interpretation of my abstract paintings. My initial inspiration for this was drawn from a love of the ocean and outer space. Both sitting complacently and quietly, the sky and sea both seem yet peaceful but unsettling once night arrives. Hidden beneath these seemingly dark empty pits, are bursts of light, colour and mesmerising beauty. Bioluminescent algae’s and fish flood the sea beds, and light up the deep dark ocean floors. Shimmering stars, planets, and beautiful whimsical nebulas light up the sky. This is conveyed in my work by using a deep cool enriching colour palette, contrasted with hints of shimmering metallic gold, to capture the feel of the beauty hidden beneath the dark looming surface. As you move around the paintings, watch as the light dances and reflects across the inks to reveal its true hidden beauty.
