FASHION: METEVO CLOTHING

Tatevik Sayadyan and Maria Khachatryan, the duo who make up MetEvo, talk to us about where they draw inspiration for their fashion tees and how they hope to contribute to greater good in the world one stylin' shirt at a time. See their clothing live on the RAW runway at the next Fullerton showcase on Thursday, February 18th!

Tell us about MetEvo and how the clothing line got its start.
MetEvo consists of two members, Tatevik Sayadyan and Maria Khachatryan. We both grew up in families made up of artists. We both have degrees in art, and besides the clothing line, we are both working artists. The idea of starting a clothing line was to bring art, into the everyday, and by doing so, to inspire creativity and love. The name MetEvo, is short for Metamorphose Evolution. What we want to do with this line is to help direct the mentalities of people towards a more humane society and towards  positivity and love.

From where do you draw inspiration for your line?
We draw inspiration for our work from the world that surrounds us, from what has come before, and the potential the future holds. All forms of art can be inspiring, the greatest inspiration being the art of life, living, and loving.

What is involved in the making of your clothing line?
In order to transform all that is philosophically written here on to a shirt, we first start to work with different concepts. Once we have a concept that we are satisfied with, we start to make the sketches of the artwork and the shirts. These sketches are at times on paper and at times on the computer. In the end, the finalized versions are computerized in order to work with modern day production companies. Once the sketches are done we figure out where to place the artwork on the shirt. This involves the technical aspects of measurement, cutting, sewing, and so on. After this is finished, the artwork is finalized and we enter the final stages of the process where the cut and the art come together and are then once more finalized before proceeding with production.

Any recurring themes in your designs?
Our main theme and our philosophy in the company is to metamorphosize, to become better human beings, not only for ourselves, but for the greater good of our world and the people with whom we share this world. The greatest concept in our work is love.
