Visual Art – Richmond

A deep appreciation for reading and art led me to combine the two into beautiful book sculptures. Years ago I gifted a book to my granddaddy, and when he passed away, I reclaimed the book as a keepsake. And so it sat on my shelves with others that held special memories and the rest of my books that I never had enough time to read. How could I have these books with pasts at the forefront of all the rest instead of living on a shelf? After spotting a magazine article that included books with simple folds and displayed as art, I had my answer! The book that I gave to my granddaddy was my first book sculpture, and has traveled successfully in multiple moves and reminds me of a special time that we shared. Since then, I\'ve strived to find interesting books from all over the world that someone else has discarded and bring it back to life. Adding accessories, jewelry, and my photography to sculptures is so much fun! Often times a sculpture revolves around something once loved, but no longer can be used in its intended form - lockets, postcards, one earring, belts, or family heirlooms. GalloniDesigns sculptures continue the story of once loved books.
