Visual Art – Indianapolis

I began working as an assistant painter/sculptor at McGuire Scenic, Inc. at the age of 15. My employment there led to a commission to paint two portraits for characters in the Indianapolis Opera Company’s production of Don Pasquale. It also inspired my personal work, which led to an exhibition at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum as a Prelude Awards Visual Art’s Finalist in 2002. My education at Wabash College helped me develop a strong foundation in the arts. The courses I have completed at Wabash have given me a firm understanding of many artistic media. I gained off-campus experience through my immersion study curriculum in New York City my Junior Year. Through the New York Arts Program, I worked at Andrew Ginzel and Kristin Jones’ studio helping to research and prepare proposals for public sculptures and upcoming exhibitions. With Ian Burns I worked hands on to help him complete and install kinetic sculptures for exhibits in Long Island, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Though the one semester program ended in May, I stayed on through the summer and continued to work for Ian Burns along with many other artists including Nancy Blume, and Kiki Smith. Since college, I have been working on building my portfolio while working a variety of jobs in scenic construction and painting. I have experience in carpentry, welding (both arc and oxy acetyline), foam carving, and finish painting.
