Visual Art – Denver

I paint the opposite of words. I paint to escape the pressure of adherence to shared meanings. Abstract art sidesteps human domestication and social conditioning by communicating on a firsthand basis. My focus is personal connection and affecting the ripples of causality in a meaningful and permanent way. Color, form, and texture are not filtered through the labyrinth of words built from and tainted by their definition or connotation; instead, they are direct communication. Through color, direct feelings are exposed and conveyed. Color cannot be explained with words. Instead of painting the rock, the mountain, or the cloud, I paint the relationship between them. My interest lies in what you see when you close your eyes after looking at a landscape, more than the sticks, dirt and sky that comprise the landscape. I paint to sidestep the unconscious agreement we make when we communicate with words. Abstract painting is the most accurate way to capture and communicate an emotion. When I am painting, I invite the viewer to explore far off worlds, feelings and perspectives. I paint the flux of energy I feel from a landscape, from a person, or from an experience. I paint to expand my own perspective and to share that expansion with the viewer. I paint to break boundaries and borders, to share the beauty I see in the world. I paint to learn and to connect. I want to entice the viewer to experience common things in an uncommon way.
