Valerie Cousens was born in Fareham, England. She is a self-taught abstract painter, mixed media art creator, eco-fashion designer, active volunteer and an environmentalist. Her love of abstract stems from the belief that it is always open to interpretation by the viewer. Valerie won Platinum in the Dressmaker category of the Spectator Readers Choice Awards 2016. Also in 2016 she was presented with an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for 10+ years at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. In 2014 she was nominated for a Hamilton Arts Award in the Community category. She was presented with a medal in 2010 for her nomination of Tourism Hamilton Volunteer of the Year. Valerie is the creator & designer for Green Dress Designs (upcycled fashion & art)
