Music – San Francisco

HANDSHAKE Named number 5 in SF Rebirth, the unofficial blog of the Bay Area rock scene’s "15 Great Bay Area Rock Bands" by Daniel Bromfield 3/22/10. Handshake is an art rock group that was formed in the summer of 2009. Handshake’s harmony-laden sound can be described with the words “Funky”, “Folky”, “Artsy” and “Fresh” and is frequently compared to Radiohead and Grizzly Bear. Conceived at Marin School of the Arts, where the members studied, all have been playing music many years and each plays a number of instruments. Clary and English enjoyed local success with their former band, Ash’s Fall. Their diverse influences inspire and inform each other. Their goal is to create a style in contrast to the current forms of music today. Recent performances include Blake’s on Telegraph, The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, Revolution 9 in Fairfax, The Red House in Walnut Creek, Slim's and the DNA Lounge in San Francisco where they recently came in the top three at a Northern California Battle of the Bands. Their energy on stage has made them a fast favorite and their fan base grows wherever they play.
