Howie Garber

Howie Garber has won national and international awards for photography including four awards from the BBC in their Wildlife Photographer of the Year Contest. His images have been exhibited in the Museum of Natural History in London, England and in the Smithsonian Museum. One of his Polar Bear images is part of Smithsonian permanent collection. He has photographed wildlife and landscapes on 7 continents. He was picked up hitchhiking in Brazil in 1990 by a jaguar researcher. They subsequently were married and this intensified Howie’s interest in nature photography. His clients have included National Geographic, Nikon, Newsweek, Alaska Magazine, and Patagonia. His recent book Utah’s Wasatch Range: Four Season Refuge won a Ben Franklin Silver Medal in the 2014 competition of Independent Book Publishers. His Book Adventures in Fine Art Photography won Grand prize in the Foreground Contest as the best Fine Art and Photography Book of 2015. Howie states that "One of the challenges that remains is how to use my photography as a tool for conservation. Artistically capturing pure beauty seems hedonistic and socially irresponsible at times. It is important to document what we are trying to save as well as what we are destroying at a fast pace “ Howie been involved in conservation issues in the Wasatch Mountains since the 1980s and has also been involved in improving air quality as a Board member of the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment.
