Visual Art – Miami

I grew up in Jamaica in a place where I could just make out the ocean from a hill on a piece of land next to our own. I started painting and drawing at a very young age. I remember painting the trees, flowers and birds that every kid paints when they are young. Then I started drawing my own X-Men characters, Pokémon, and forms of whatever other cartoons we watched back then. From there I would attend my first art show at the age of 15, which led to my attending a private art class. It is this class that taught me all I know about painting. I stayed with the class all throughout high school and finally left at age 18 with my graduation. At age 20 I moved to Florida where I studied to become a nurse. I tried to do art in college, but some rule about majors and minors prevented me, and I was concentrating on making a living. This halted my painting a bit as I became a working woman. When I got married I found myself painting and drawing a lot more again, and I actually still have some unfinished pieces from then. Now, at age 28, I have a two year old son, a two month old daughter, and a full time job as a nurse. Amidst all of this, I try to continue painting whenever I get the chance, which is mostly after both children are asleep.
