Music – Miami

The PBR soaked sound coming from Deaf Poets is not only bending palm trees but also breaking expectations. The Miami Duo, Sean Wouters and Nicolas Espinosa, has been making stiff-necked locals’ heads bob and creating quite a stir. Deaf Poets’ music has the starkness of a garage rock band combined with the eagerness of a punk 80′s band. The eager verve of each stringed note and ride cymbal hit has got me believing all their lies. Will you too? DEAF POETS are Miami-born Sean Wouters and Nicolas Espinosa from Argentina, both 22. Sean is a classically trained guitarist who played in his high school’s guitar quartet. Nico grew up around music; his father was a musician and would allow him to play minor percussion at his band’s performances. He started taking piano lessons in a studio that also had a drum kit and found himself drawn to the drums. The two met in their elementary school’s art club and started playing music together in their freshman year of high school. They’ve been involved in various musical projects together over the last six years and solidified Deaf Poets in 2009. Since then the band has amassed a large fan base in Miami, opening for Ted Leo and others, and have played almost every live music venue in town.
