Shane Gidcumb

Photography – San Francisco

\"I push the extremes...To be content with what we know is to deny our own ability to think and visualize.\" Shane\'s images might lead you down a surreal path in the country or immerse you in the geometry of city architecture. His life story reflects a familiarity with diverse settings. Shane grew up in Harrisburg, Illinois, a sleepy town amidst the corn fields and coal mines, of Southern Illinois. Upon graduation from the University of Missouri, he took residence in the seedy Tenderloin district of San Francisco. Currently he resides on a boutique vineyard in rural Northern California. Shane\'s journey as a photographic artist began while studying a traditional approach to photography at the University of Missouri. While there, with an exact realism, he re-created scenes in the dark room that he had seen in front of his lens. Only a few years out of the university he wandered South America, backpacking with a camera and fly rod. Filling the memory cards, he began to push reality with his interpretations of the colorful South American towns. In 2010, Shane\'s creativity headed toward another spike while shooting in the snow covered mountains of Montana. After completing an MBA at Sonoma State University in 2011, Shane returned his focus to producing provocative visualizations. Since then, he’s created images from trips to Europe, Asia and sites around the U.S.
