Introspective Movement Project

Performing Art – Philadelphia

Introspective Movement Project, a Philadelphia-based contemporary jazz company, under the artistic direction of Sonia James Pennington, is defying limitations and restrictions placed on movement, while inspiring soul inspired self-exploration. Company pieces are committed to telling stories that fully incorporate life experiences through organic, athletic, emotion-evoking choreography, which inspire artistic works that fuse movement with limitless boundaries and technical prowess. Dancers are committed to being totally in the moment, to becoming musical instruments, and to letting go so their bodies speak an instinctual language that needs no translation. “Phenomenally Rising: The Fruits of the Dreams of Men”, the company\'s most noted work to date, is a dedication to the life work of Maya Angelou whose personal journey demonstrated the undeniable strength of the human spirit to overcome the mental, physical, and spiritual hold of “isms”, by declaring the power of resilience, by defining one’s self, by learning one’s history, and by having the courage to be noticed despite these limiting forces.
