Iris Huey

Iris Huey is a graduate of Howard University where she studied film and theater. As a filmmaker, actress, writer and spoken word artist, Huey has assumed a variety of critical roles in many productions both in front and behind the scenes. As a filmmaker, one of Huey’s notable works is a short film she wrote, produced and directed called Scratches. The film tells the story of a young womanizer who ends up at a spoken word café and is forced to look at the futility of his ways. In 2003, Scratches won the Best Short Film award at the Arizona Black Film Showcase. Huey also produced the feature film Second Chance, a drama about a young man who left his girlfriend and newborn son because he could not handle the pressures of fatherhood. Five years later, he returns hoping for a second chance to make things right. Second Chance has been featured at various festivals including, Urbanworld (New York) and the American Black Film Festival (Los Angeles). It has also been used as an educational tool by various agencies and organizations such as the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (Chicago), the Arizona Center for Responsible Fatherhood, the St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center, Concerned Black Men – National Organization, the City of Phoenix Human Services Department and more. The film was released to DVD in 2009.
