Visual Art – Houston

I have always enjoyed and have a great appreciation for the arts and all artists past and present. For years I wanted to learn to paint, but never took the time to learn. As the years have passed by, finally one day after moving to Houston over a year ago, I had the opportunity to join a wine and paint class complementary of my community activity coordinator in my apartment building. She demonstrated to us the types of paint brushes to use, basic color and mixing as we followed along painting a tree. I enjoyed this so much that the next day (July 2017) I went out and purchased the material needed to get me started up and painting SOMETHING. I have always been somewhat creative, so all kinds of things popped into my mind. I started painting just whatever i thought of referring back to the artist instructor showing us the different brushes to use, paint and mixing and away I went. As I continued to paint I wanted to learn more about different techniques, colors, texture, tools other than just brushes and so much more. I started out using acrylic paint and then tried oil, but decided I favor acrylic paint. This is what I primarily use and sometimes using colored pencils and oil pastel crayola. I discovered many techniques to get the right affects to represent what I envision. One method I use often is a painting knife. This tool can give you much flexibility in design with texture and effects. So, through research and lots of practice paintings brings me to one year of painting and being self taught. Needless to say I was thrilled when someone actually wanted to purchase my painting for the 1st time. In conclusion, I finally reached a deep desire after so many years of not just thinking about painting, but bringing my visual images to life and wanting to share my creativity with others.
