Photography – San Francisco

The word “photography” has two Greek roots. “Photo-” from phos, meaning “light”, and “-graphy” from graphia, meaning “a description of.” (“Graph” has come to mean a number of things including to record, to draw, write, etc.) It is this that I try to remember when I take pictures. I like to imagine “drawing the light.” Through this concept of “drawing the light” it seems that the only appropriate medium would be film. Light energy causes chemical change on the film and what you get is a photograph, a light description. When I want my photos to be taken seriously, I shoot film. All of the photos here are film. None of them have been edited or altered. I enjoy creating this way because it feels raw. It gives me a sense of truth. Aside from that, I wait tables, ride my bike and am pursuing a degree in Languages with a minor in Journalism. I commit myself to poetry.
