Jaquita Straw

Fashion – Sacramento

I am a well rounded designer of many mediums armed with a BA in Fashion Design. I am inspired by Native American culture, urban and rural areas, yoga, meditation, and wild crafting. I am also highly inspired by the Wild Woman arcetype. Within every woman there lives a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. She is the Wild Woman, who represents the instinctual nature of women. She is creative, lives naturally, and walks with good intentions. She is the modern day goddess. She is my ultimate inspiration. I gravitate towards raw materials and do my best to be friendly to Gaia. I support our community by sourcing locally made supplies. I use organic textiles and all animal products are produced by Native American trading posts. The bones used in my work are collected from road kill. My technical training has given me the skills to create unique and quality items made with loving intention. I am passionate about herbal dyes and other ancient techniques of fabric manipulation. I use wild crafted materials to dye fabric. I harvest berries, leaves, roots, flowers, mud, henna, and other natural materials in my habitat and dye with them. Mother Nature provides all resources we need. In this practice I have become connected to nature and my bioregion. I am constantly striving to be a better designer and look for inspiration with every breath I take. I completed 3 RAW Showcases this year: RAW Sacramento, RAW Denver, RAW San Francisco
