Visual Art – Miami

My name is Jennifer Calvin (Jcalvin). I was raised by a single mother in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. My love for everything-art started maybe in the womb. But as far as I can remember, I was always \"creating\" something. When I was a child, my mother enrolled me in art classes with Tiga, a well known Haitian artist who, unfortunately, is no longer with us. With him, I learned \"rotational art\". The name says it all: We rotated stations and worked with different mediums (paint, ink, clay, drums, etc.) Maybe this is why I\'m so \"unstable\" as an artist. I have my moments where I go back and forth into photography, painting on everything i find, doodling on any piece of paper, making jewelry and starting all kinds of arts and crafts projects. In college, I enrolled in an introduction class to drawing that I loved. Each time I tried getting into other art classes I couldn\'t. They were either full or the priority was given to Art majors/minors (I still ask myself why I didn\'t major or minor in art?) Anyway, this is all the \"formal\" training I received. So on my own, I\'ve learned to create and re-create, not only to understand mediums and how they work together, but also to understand the world around me...hoping, in this process, I can finally find and define myself as a creative being...
