Photography – Dallas - Fort Worth

My name is Johan Salvador Tavares, I'm a Dominican-born artist, transplanted to NYC at the age of 13 in 1995. I came to New York not knowing a lick of English and still I made my way through 7 years of art school like a sponge, absorbing both the language and the culture. After graduating from the high school of art and design in 2000, I went on to continuing my education as a visual communicator in hopes of becoming a graphic designer. A few years and a couple of schools later I discovered the magic of DSLR cameras, and I never looked back since. My goal of becoming a graphic designer was replaced with all things photography. I devoted all my waking time to learning photography, I took classes at the school of visual arts in Manhattan, I interned at high-end photography studios and with the help of a friend, I landed a job at a top notch fashion manufacturing company. There I walked through ranks and became a key photographer. This relationship went on for almost 11 amazing years where I photographed for labels Cinc a Sept, Elizabeth and James, Patterson J Kincaid, and LaRok. Today I am a full-time freelancer but my focus has shifted towards fine art photography and selling my art online. Over the years of traveling from shoot to shoot and going on long road trips across this country, I built an incredible portfolio full of landscapes, architectural photos, abstracts and even some flora and fauna. Over the last couple of years, I've been carefully selecting a collection of photos to showcase in my online stores and try and sell them in hopes of becoming a published artist. Eventually, with some financial help, my goal is to open up a photography studio where I can offer my services to my community as well as art workshops and classes. I am very excited to be a part of Raw Artist again and I am incredibly grateful to them for creating a platform for artists to promote their artistic styles and visions.
