Josh Hotz

Photography – Ottawa

Since 2009, Josh has been deeply engaged in the photographic documentation of skateboarding in Canada and the United States. He attended the portfolio program at SPAO which allowed him to challenge himself and his subjects to capture the essence of this culture. In addition to being known across Canada as a preeminent photographer in this genre, Josh is recognized for his creativity as a portrait photographer and his ability to create innovative lighting solutions for challenging situations. He has traveled throughout the Eastern and Southern United States, Ontario, Quebec and the Middle East. Images have been published in all of Canada\'s Skateboarding Magazines, including their Photo Annuals, as well as online by Hasselblad.com and Push.ca, and select publications in the UK and the USA. He has shot advertisements for Element Skateboards, DC Shoes, DVS Shoes, Top of the World, Antique Skate, S3 Skate, Exo Boardshop, Vivo Headwear, and NRML Clothing. Josh also holds exhibitions with the goal of bringing an understanding of the art of skateboarding to the general public. Exhibits; Calumet Gallery(NYC), Space@Create Gallery(UK), La Petit Mort, The RedWall Gallery, Our Streets on Canvas at The Standard Tavern with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and a solo exhibition at Must Wine Bar (Ottawa). He has also been working commercially photographing the Just For Laughs Gala hosted by Dane Cook, Jeremy Hotz’s Magical Misery Tour and the 2013 Canadian Comedy Awards. He currently fills the role of Director of Photography for Antidote Magazine, directing and planing shoots in Ottawa and beyond.
