Kombucha Jewelry and Couture are unique creations hand grown and sewn from the cellulose spun by the bacteria and yeast in the Kombucha culture. As a professional cheesemaker, I have dedicated my life for years to fermenting milk with bacteria and yeasts. The Kombucha SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Yeast and Bacteria) has many of the same bacteria living in the \"colony\" as cheese, so to ferment green tea with kombucha was a natural extension of what I was doing already, but turning it into live clothing and fashion has created a whole new paradigm and direction. I still make and love cheese! My love and understanding of the alchemy, science and art of cheesemaking has crossed over into a passion for understanding the kombucha culture and how best to develop it as a sustainable fabric that could be used in developing countries as well as in haute couture and daily couture.
My goal is creating and furthering this new versatile fabric that can mimic leather, canvas, silk or butterfly wings depending on growing and production techniques. My love for color and the magical play between light and texture has been my inspiration for using food dyes which keep the live culture breathing and vibrant.
